Benjamin Channing Clyburn and Sonia Yoon’s brand Bensoni embodies the designer’s distinct yet cohesive style with an exquisitely tailored look at femininity. Clyburn and Yoon’s strength lies in their unexpected mix of fabrications and unusual sources of inspiration, finding its way into the design elements of the pieces without a literal marriage of the idea.
Ben and Sonia met while studying at Parson’s School of Design. Upon discovering their shared aesthetic, the duo collaborated on their senior thesis project. The highly successful collaboration garnered the pair significant attention from the press as well as a nomination for Parson’s prestigious “Designer of the Year” award. Prior to launching the Bensoni Collection for Spring 2007, the design team worked together on numerous other projects, including the design of uniforms for the restaurant in Saks Fifth Avenue’s flagship location. Collectively they have apprenticed with Giorgio Armani, Donna Karen, Brioni and The Gap.
